We are excited to have Valley Grass back to play on the porch.
Valley Grass is a bluegrass gospel and bluegrass band that originated out of Rich Valley Presbyterian Church. The band was started in March 2006 by Raymond Campbell, former member of Fescue, as a result of individuals who were eager to learn how to play a musical instrument met weekly at the church and from there the group was formed. Several members of the group have been and will continue to be mentors to the youth that are interested in the learning the music.

Valley Grass has played at numerous gospel and bluegrass venues over the past few years. Some of those include churches, community events, the Pickin’ Porch, Grace Healthcare, Crooked Road General Store, Smyth County Jam and the Heartwood. We play once a month at Valley Health Care and twice a month at the Southwest Virginia Mental Health Institute as part of our contribution back to the community.

Everyone in the group holds dear to their faith and thanks God for the talents He has placed in their lives. We give God all the praise and the glory for the wonderful things He has done in our lives and the lives of others through our music ministry.

All Mountain Top Music concerts are free to the public. The performers donate their time and talent for our enjoyment, so all tips and donations are accepted and encouraged! CDs are available for purchase. Please show your appreciation for these musicians and their music.

History Comes Alive: Battle of Wytheville

History Comes Alive: Battle of Wytheville

Jul 21, 12:00pm - Jul 21, 4:00pm

Big Walker Lookout8711 Stoney Fork Rd N37º 2.7641', W081º 13.6846'Wytheville, VA24382 Map

Once a year we take time to celebrate The Battle of Wytheville, Tolland’s Raid, and Molly Tynes ride. This is all part of the history of the area and we wish to honor all who fought to protect their land and families. This day we will be flying the American flag and the Civil War battle flag in honor of the American families and the loved ones they lost.

Jim Lloyd and Friends will be playing Civil War songs.

It was a time in history that helped shape the area into what it is today. We do not do this to start controversy or take a stand one way or the other.

Rev. Sheffey will be wandering around in uniform talking about life during and history of the Civil War.

The story of Molly Tynes will be told and there will be a little history of the Battle of Wytheville and Toland's Raid.

Plan to make a day of it! Enjoy the sights and sounds of the mountains and our history!
